Top 7 Countries with the highest oil consumption

  1. USA
  2. China
  3. India
  4. Japan

  6. Saudi Arabia
  7. Brazil

The United States is the largest consumer of crude oil in the world. As of recent data, the U.S. consumes approximately 18 to 20 million barrels per day. This accounts for a significant portion of global oil consumption, driven by its large economy, high demand for transportation fuels, and industrial needs.

China’s crude oil production has been relatively stable in recent years, averaging around 4 million barrels per day. The country’s main oil fields are located in regions like Daqing, Bohai Bay, and Xinjiang. Despite being one of the largest producers of crude oil, China’s domestic production falls short of meeting its consumption demands, leading it to rely heavily on imports. This has prompted China to invest in oil exploration both domestically and internationally, while also focusing on alternative energy sources to reduce its dependency on crude oil imports.

India’s crude oil production has been gradually declining in recent years, currently averaging around 600,000 barrels per day. The majority of India’s oil production comes from onshore fields in states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Assam, along with offshore fields in the Mumbai High region. Despite having some domestic oil reserves, India’s production is insufficient to meet its growing energy needs, making the country heavily reliant on oil imports. To address this, India has been focusing on increasing exploration activities, enhancing recovery techniques, and investing in alternative energy to reduce its dependency on foreign oil.

Japan has very limited crude oil production, with only a small amount coming from domestic sources, averaging a few thousand barrels per day. The country relies almost entirely on imports to meet its energy needs, as its domestic oil reserves are minimal. Japan is one of the largest importers of oil globally, primarily sourcing it from the Middle East.

Russia is one of the world’s largest producers of crude oil, producing around 10 to 11 million barrels per day. Its major oil fields are located in Siberia and the Urals. Russia’s oil industry is a key component of its economy, with significant exports to Europe and Asia.

Crude oil production in Brazil has been reported to be high in recent years. It has increased by 3.5 million barrels in 2023 alone. Compared to the year 2022, there has been an increase of 12.4%.
