A three-member committee formed by the Odisha government visited the university on Wednesday and started investigating the whole matter. During the investigation in the university, Additional Chief Secretary of the Home Department Satyabrata Sahu said, “We have come here as per the instructions of the government and are talking to all the concerned parties. The spot will be inspected and discussions will be held with the affected students. The full report will be submitted to the government soon.”

Police detained the main accused

In this case, the police have arrested Prakriti Lamsal’s alleged boyfriend Advik Srivastava, who is accused of mentally and emotionally harassing her. The police have sought permission from the court for three days’ remand of Advik so that the evidence can be strengthened during interrogation. Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police Commissioner Dev Dutta Singh said, “We have sought the remand of the accused and will question him in depth. We have also seized the mobile and laptop of the deceased student, which has been sent for forensic examination. We are confident that justice will definitely be served.”

Talks between the Nepal government and the Indian administration

After this incident, the Nepal government has also taken immediate steps. Nepal’s Foreign Minister Dr. Arjun Rana Deuba spoke to Odisha’s Higher Education Minister Suryavanshi Suraj over the phone and demanded a fair investigation into the matter. Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also spoke to Nepal’s counsellors Sanjeev Das Sharma and Naveen Raj Adhikari and assured justice. He appealed to the Nepali students to resume their studies and not to worry about any kind of security.

Students protest and demand justice

After Prakriti’s death, there is deep anger among the students of KIIT University. They are constantly demanding justice and demanding strict action against the accused. Many student organizations have also demonstrated regarding this matter.

Prakriti Lamsal’s death has raised many questions. Was she mentally harassed so much that she took a step like suicide? Was the university administration taking this matter seriously? Now all eyes are on the report of the investigation committee and the action of the police.
