The Supreme Court is currently hearing many such cases in which the issue of issuing caste certificates in large numbers has come to the fore. Especially, in Tamil Nadu, thousands of people have been given caste certificates declaring them to be members of the “Hindu Konda Reddy community”. Calling it a “very serious problem”, the court said that the issuance of such a large number of certificates is suspicious and an impartial investigation is necessary.

Supreme Court strict stance

During the hearing, the bench of Supreme Court Justice JB Pardiwala and R. Mahadevan said that this matter is very serious and dangerous. The court clarified that no one is being directly accused right now, but in the preliminary investigation it appears to be a “big racket”. To maintain complete transparency and fairness in this case, the court has directed the state-level investigation committee to investigate the authenticity of the certificates and submit the report in six weeks.

Supreme Court stays High Court order

An important turn in this whole case came when a woman sought a caste certificate for her son, but the Revenue Department Officer (RDO) rejected it after an investigation. After this, the woman approached the Madras High Court and the court ordered that the state-level committee should decide whether the family is part of the Reddy community or not. However, the Tamil Nadu government disagreed with this order and filed a special leave petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the High Court’s decision. The Supreme Court first stayed it, but recently amended its order and directed it to investigate the matter in depth.

The Supreme Court said We want to know the truth

During the hearing, the Supreme Court clearly stated that they wanted to know the process through which these caste certificates were issued and who all were involved in it. The court directed the state-level committee to investigate fairly and transparently and said that all the documents should be thoroughly examined. The Supreme Court also clarified that it will investigate each petition separately and then give the final decision.

The truth must come out

This case related to caste certificates in Tamil Nadu has caught the attention of the whole country. If such fake certificates continue to be issued, they can pose a serious threat to social justice and the reservation system. The Supreme Court has said to maintain complete transparency in this matter so that it can be ensured that no person mistakenly gets a caste certificate.
