Hello friends, the Supreme Court steps in after the recent tragic accident at New Delhi Railway Station shook us all. 18 people lost their lives in this accident on Saturday, and thousands were injured. PIL filed in Supreme Court
After this accident, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court. The petition demands that an expert committee be formed to suggest necessary measures to avoid such incidents. The petition also requests that the Central Government and State Governments implement the report, “Managing Crowd at Events and Venues of Mass Gathering”, prepared by the National Disaster Management Authority in 2014.
Suggestions to enhance security at railway stations
The petition also asked the Indian Railways to take immediate steps to ensure the safety of passengers at railway stations. These include widening the corridors at the station, arranging broad overbridges and ramps on platforms, and ensuring easy access to train platforms during peak hours. Apart from this, it has also been suggested that last-minute changes in train platforms be prevented, and station ticket counters be ordered not to issue tickets beyond their capacity.
Cause of incident
The incident happened when the platform of the train going to Prayagraj was suddenly changed. This created panic among the passengers, leading to a stampede-like situation. The petition also said that this was not the first time such accidents had happened. Such incidents have happened at railway stations before, which proves that immediate steps need to be taken to prevent such incidents.

Vishal Tiwari, the lawyer who filed the petition in the Supreme Court, also stressed that the railways should be more vigilant, especially at times when a very large crowd gathers in one place.
